Energy and gas suppliers are increasingly sought after by those who want better services, accurate prices and timely help for the various problems that may arise. Many do not know if there are penalties for changing suppliers or migrating to another company. Today we will answer these questions openly in our desire to be transparent and provide accurate information to consumers.
The electricity market began to gradually change its structure in 2007, then regulated tariffs for non-domestic consumers (businesses, corporations) were eliminated. For domestic consumers, second according to the timetable established in 2012, full price liberalization will be completed on December 31, 2017. At this time, 90% of the price on household consumption bills comes from the free market and 10% is the price regulated by the ANRE.
Same situation for gas? Yes, the gas market in Romania is also undergoing changes. The purchase price of natural gas has already been fully liberalized since 1 April 2017, and the other components included in Romanians’ bills will follow the same process until 2021.
This calendar was established following negotiations with representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the European Union and the World Bank, in the sense that the duration desired by the external partners was extended from three years (2015-2018) to six years (2015-2021), and the price growth rate was equally distributed throughout the reference period, not accepting a more pronounced increase in the first part of the period. Energy and gas suppliers do not charge consumers
As we have been contacted by many people who want to become Restart Energy customers, we have noticed a tendency to ask the question: am I being charged for this change? If I want to stop, do I have the right? Are there sanctions if I change my mind in the meantime?
You should know that no supplier has the right to charge you for changing your energy and gas contract. The whole process the supplier change lasts a maximum of 5 weeks, depending on the day of the change request, and during this period you have the right to change your decision at any time and to give up, you are not obliged by the supplier to continue the process.
For example, a person who signed a contract with an energy and gas supplier for a period of 1 year or even 2 years is afraid. Which one exactly? There is a fear that if he changes his mind, for various reasons: he has found better services, leaves the country, etc., he will be penalized by the supplier. The answer is clear: no.
The supplier will not impose any burden on the consumer for exercising his right of free choice. You are protected by law and scthe obligation of the electricity and gas supplier is guaranteed by the Law on Electricity and Natural Gas and is regulated by the Ordinance of the President of the ANRE n. 105/2014.
A simple and free process
When you change your electricity and gas supplier, everything is simple, free and the process will not interrupt the energy supply, you will not change meters or power plants. The process is carried out for a single consumption location or for multiple consumption locations.
In the case of this change the following legal entities are involved: the electricity consumer, the current supplier, the new supplier and the distribution operator.
What conditions do you have to meet?
The new supply company takes care of all the steps and you need the following:
- Be connected to electricity or natural gas and have technical approval for this connection. This document will not be requested, the connection to the network will be verified at your energy or gas distributor.
- Be the legitimate owner of the place of consumption, to be able to sign the supply contract.
What if the place of consumption is newly built and does not yet have electricity and gas connections?
It is important to remember that you can choose another electricity or gas supplier whenever you want, even when you have not yet installed the meters. You can ask the distribution company to install your meter, or the new utility company can do it for you. After having connected the place of consumption, the supply is carried out within the company of your choice, without being obliged to conclude a contract with the Supplier of last resort in your area. Get in touch with the supplier company where you want to conclude the contract, explain the situation to them and they will help you.
